About The Role


  • To conduct fund research – this is initially going to be the main focus of the successful candidate
  • To manage portfolios as part of a team and implement 7IM’s investment strategy
  • To challenge and improve our investment process
  • To provide client support and help promoting our investment products and services

In this role, it's essential that you consistently follow the FCA's Consumer Duty principles. You're expected to act in good faith, prevent potential harm, and actively support our customers in achieving their financial goals.


  • Fund research:
    • To select, monitor and review third party funds (actively and passively managed) and maintain a list of best-in-class funds providing different types of exposures - the successful candidate will be assigned several sectors
    • Using those best-in-class funds, to construct and manage the assigned sector portfolio(s) with a detailed understanding of the underlying style and factor exposures
    • Produce detailed analysis of assigned sectors and asset classes and provided clear, concise and reasoned recommendations to the rest of the investment team
    • To produce data, with background analysis, written or oral, upon request to help in the production of reports and presentations for the team and for marketing requirements
  • Portfolio and model management:
    • To monitor and be an effective member of the team managing 7IM funds and models
    • To execute, check and approve related trades
  • Investment process:
    • To provide constructive challenge in investment team discussion in relation to fund selection or wider tactical positioning
    • To participate actively in the wider investment team’s work to improve all elements of our investment process, including the SAA and TAA
    • To contribute investment insights and ideas from external fund manager meetings
  • Client support :
    • To support Investment and Model Solutions teams in their business development and client servicing efforts
    • To contribute to the production of quarterly client reports, other written investment communication, webinars and similar
  • To undertake any other tasks from time to time as directed by the line manager

About You


  • Economic and financial markets knowledge
  • Minimum of three years specialist fund research experience
  • Experience with the use of Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg and MS Office, in particular Excel
  • Degree level qualified
  • Passed IMC Unit 1 module, or working towards it
  • Gained, or working towards gaining, the CFA designation

The ‘7’ in 7IM refers to the seven original founders of the business. Back in 2002, they couldn’t find a firm they trusted to manage their families’ money properly – big banks seemed impersonal and greedy, while most boutiques lacked the necessary investment process and structure. They started the kind of organisation they’d like to invest with themselves.
Their aim was to deliver steady returns over the long term, while keeping an eye on risk, using the best technology. They wanted everyone to have access to the kind of service and expertise that institutional investors would expect.
We’ve evolved since then. In 2015 Caledonia Investments joined us as a major shareholder. In 2018 we acquired Tcam Asset Management, a firm we felt closely aligned with our investment philosophies and multiasset approach. In 2020 we continued our long-term growth strategy and acquired the award-winning London based financial planning firm Partners Wealth Management (PWM). PWM will continue to operate as an independent company, retaining its brand, identity, and leadership.

From our offices in London, Edinburgh, and Jersey, more than 400 talented people manage over £19 billion for a range of clients, including individuals and families, financial advisers, corporates, charities and trustees.
