About The Role

Purpose
 
To assist the Senior Database Administrator in providing database support to the business.
 
Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the database infrastructure remains consistently available to all users (including colleagues, clients, business partners and suppliers) through: 
    • Management of service or change requests
    • Management and delivery of scheduled daily, weekly and monthly tasks
    • Identification, management and resolution of incidents
    • Identification, management and root cause elimination of problems
    • Identification, management and implementation of application or process improvements
  • Carry out daily database checks to maintain database availability.
  • Detection and troubleshooting of database performance issues.
  • Work closely with other members of the infrastructure, application support and development teams.
  • Define and uphold SQL database standards.
  • Assist with ad hoc data reports and creation of SSRS reports.
  • Liaise and build relationships with third party suppliers and clients.
  • Installation, management and support of SQL server 2012 to 2019, including clustering.
  • Provide support to the Development team, ensuring that the database requirements for internally developed applications are provided.
  • Troubleshoot Performance issues, with Critical business applications
  • Assist with database deployments.
  • Expand and improve the database documentation library.
  • Troubleshooting and fault reporting of major outages and issues.
  • Assist with ensuring that IT security policy and procedures are enforced and staff are aware of their roles in contributing to this.
  • Regular patching of SQL Servers.
  • Maintain a technical advantage through continual training and personal development.
  • Understand the business strategy and contribute to the overall goals of the business through development, improvement and support.
  • Support 7IM’s Mission and Tenets and subscribe to TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) initiatives.
  • Be available for out-of-hours work when required.
 

About You

Skills
  • Experience in SQL Server database administration.
  • Experience with T-SQL and performance optimisation
  • Ability to logically and methodically problem solve IT incidents and outages.
  • Practical experience of monitoring and tuning to provide high availability and service.
  • Experience with implementing IT security policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of delivering to commitments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Mentoring and training to the infrastructure, application support and development teams.
  • Experience of release management.
Knowledge
  • SSRS, SSIS and SSAS.
  • Experience with the following tools – SSMS, Profiler, SQLCMD, Extended Events.
  • Extensive knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server DMVs.
  • Performance tuning, index design and query optimization.
  • Database encryption.
  • PowerShell.
  • Visual Studio.
  • TFS or similar source control system.
  • Knowledge of clustering, SAN storage and virtualisation.
  • Knowledge of backup models and data recovery.
  • Knowledge of industry-recognised IT and support practices.
  • A basic understanding of investment markets is an advantage.
  • Any knowledge of the below would be a bonus:
    • Data Protection Manager
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Microsoft PowerBI
    • Third-party tools such as RedGate and SQL Sentry.
    • Nimble Storage
Qualifications
  • Microsoft Infrastructure specific certifications are an advantage, e.g. MTA, MCSA, MCSE.
